Please accept the attached as submission to the HO Scale Track Contest.
This HO Scale track was built for fun rather than competitive racing.
Eighty five feet of mostly Tyco tracks weave along a 4'x12' surface. With
independent power for each lane, cars power through several short
straights, wind through esses and curves ranging from six to twelve inch
radii, chicanes, single lane sections to simulate pit areas and a high
banked corkscrew (remember, think fun). With the banked curves, magnet
cars are the only choice, Super G+, Tyco and LifeLike make up most of my
vehicles. Curves are protected with standard guardrails but manageable
curves have nothing at all. Two turns are protected with clear flexible
plastic barriers. Timing and lap counting is done by a Tyco Race Computer.
Because the layout is changed on an occasional basis this is always a work
in progress and permanent scenery is not possible. HO scale buildings and
accessories, along with lots of diecast vehicles create the racing
atmosphere of a sprawling road course. Although I try to keep to scale,
I'm not a purist - I'll use it if it looks good.
Upcoming improvements include real lighting for buildings and scenery and
wiring for brakes. Of course, by summer I'm on to a new layout.....
