Scott Weger
Hi, please accept these pictures of our HO racetrack for your contest.
The following materials were used to build the table.
The frame and legs are made of 1x4's. The table size is 4x8. The frame
is attached to a base that is built out one foot away from the wall. This is the pit area.
This allows us to fold the table up when not in use and I get the space back so
my kids and I can work on other projects. The table is secured to the base
and swings up to the rafters and held up with S hooks and chain, this way
if it is bumped it will not come crashing down. Every thing on the table
has to be glued, screwed, or nailed down. When down, the table sits 2 feet
off the ground. We put up 1x6 boards around the sides and painted them blue
as well as the wall behind the table. We glued ½ thick styrofoam to the top of
the plywood and painted it green. The track is a Tomy Super International race
set and we purchased an additional 12, 15" straights to complete this track lay
out which give us a 39 foot length. I found this track layout on Gregory Braun website.
Another great website by the way! We raised the infield section to add more of a
challenge and replaced the guardrails with fomboard and cork strips that are used
for model railroads. We started building this track at the end of December
and have much more we want to do. The white tunnel/bridge you see covers
the connections for the power supply and controllers for the inside lanes.
I will eventually change this to have driver stations. The pit area is under
construction at this point and we will be installing catch fences along with
billboards around the track. We will also be hooking up a lap counter
along with more cars and fans to watch the action.
Our goal is to have a Formula 1 type look to it.
