The track is made from two 4ft / 8ft MDF sheets connected together by a
tongue and groove joint to make it possible to disassemble if need be
.Its three lane approx. 65ft painted with black board paint and then
after adding white to the paint rolled with a textured roller to give a
asphalt appearance, copper tape was then laid. The rear back straight
was elevated by routing through the sheet using the same radius pivot
points that were used for cutting the lanes . and then raising the
framework to support it .
As this is our first attempt an overpass was an added complication we
could do without so to get the max. track length a chicane was needed at
one end .
All the landscaping is polystyrene packing foam shaped with rough glass
paper and them finishing with paint able caulking which covers the
texture of the foam quite well , then painted with a flat brown house
paint blending to the track edges with a cheap air brush . after this
railroad grass and a few trees were added. The general theme takes
elements of Le Mans such as the row of pines at the entry to the
straight , the restaurant building , pits and control tower also the
billboard ads. came from a french guy's web site his hobby is collecting
stickers , the only feature on the track that is not built from balsa
wood is the Dunlop bridge which came from an HO layout I had years ago ,
this also houses the LED's used for triggering the lap counter . There
are no spectators in the pictures as they where taken on a test day : )

Work is continuing at a slower pace since we began racing on the track
so it is still a work in progress future projects include more detail on
all the buildings and spectators.
