welcome you to "Rubber Chicken Raceway" - our family basement track in Mechanicsburg, PA.
The track is a is a 45' 2-lane mix of Scalextric and SCX track, stretched out
over a 6 foot by 10 foot "L" or plywood. A Scalextric electronic timer helps
keep track of races and record times. Borders are a mix of Scalextric,
painted foam-core board and model railroad cork. The entire area around
the track was painted green and covered with a mix of colored foam, dirt,
gravel, trees and other model scenery materials. The wooden wall around
the outer edge was painted white to look like a concrete wall and decorated
with racing signs from my old Aurora HO set. Tire walls, made out of foam
pipe insulation, were placed along the fastest curves, and do a nice job
of minimizing damage while keeping cars on the table. Buildings and grandstands
are still being constructed and people and other details will be added as we have time.

The layout was designed to be "plug and play" simple so my boys and their friends
could head to the basement for some after school racing...
but dad and his friends could also have fun. The track is named after "Bounce" -
a rubber chicken that did a one-week lap of the US on the dashboard of a rental car.
He hangs from the ceiling over the track. The name is also a play on "Rattlesnake Raceway" -
the famed Texas test track used by Jim Hall's Chaparral program.
