Hi Frank,
Welcome to the Circuit De Naboo. This is my home layout that I started
about 3 years ago (forever a work in progress). The track is located in the
basement of my home and is raced upon by members of the local slot car club
(H-O-S-T Racers) as well as family and friends. The layout consists of
Scalextric and Ninco track and is setup on a table that is approximately 5
and a half feet wide by 23 feet long with roughly 2 and a half feet of
elevation change from end to end. The Ninco track pieces are located in the
Grand Palace Turn a sweeping right-hander located near the Imperial Palace.
The track was raced upon for a year or so before any scenery or structures
were added. This allowed me to work out any issues in track design and make
sure the track was fun yet challenging to race upon. It also allowed me to
see where I needed to incorporate some soft wall technology to collect those
de-slotting slot cars. I soon discovered that I needed to move a lally
column in order for all the drivers to have an unobstructed view of the
course and some crossovers and chicanes to even out the lanes. The next step
was adding scenery and structures. Having had a 1/43-scale layout
previously I knew that I did not want to make everything permanent. So, I
decided to build the landscape and buildings upon Styrofoam insulation and
make it modular. Each building is scratch built from various household
material (can you say Tupperware) Each main element of track (scenery) rests
on its own piece of insulation for easy removal. This makes it easy to work
on and allows me to change the look of the track with relative ease. I have
found that working on a detailed layout like this to be a fun and relaxing
hobby and for those times when I don't want to be relaxing I call up some
friends and go racing!
I have included 8 pictures that start with a sweeping shot of the entire
length of the track and then ending in a close up of the Grand Palace turn.
I also included some pictures of 2 of the larger modules to demonstrate the
modularity of the track.
Thanks for the opportunity to give us all a chance to display our layouts!!
Kind Regards,
Fred
