Welcome to Divide International Raceway, 15 miles NW of pikes Peak
at 9,000 feet. At 90' long, it has 62.5' of straight track.
I originally had a four lane layout so the curves are a mix of standard,
out and outer outer track. An all wooden border and crash barrier make
most curves 10" wide and straights 9" wide. Sections were assembled
and painted before fastening to the table with small nails. All joints were then filled,
sanded and touched up. Black PLASTI DIP is a good surface and
matches the track well. Individual transformers connect to the power track
and a pacer unit which are both rewired to be on the outside of the crash barrier.
Four small speaker wires run the entire length of the track and are soldered
to the rails about every 8 feet. This really helps get even power around the circuit.
An SCX Computer 1 is used strictly as a lap counter/timer.
The table is 7'x15'. Four plywood stands support the top with
interlocking plywood braces down the middle allowing total access
for storage underneath. The rails are 1/8" acrylic painted white inside.
The scratch built wooden grandstand is 40" long. I'm planning to build
several other structures using the same techniques.
The figures are Homies and Scalextric. Homies are about 2" tall.
Currently I have over 500 of them. This track is a blast to drive.
These Caterham Seven cars without magnets can run in the low 13's. Until next time!
